Virus deactivation tests A sample was prepared with 2 ml of a virus suspension placed in a Petri dish (60 mm in diameter). The test substance (chlorine dioxide) and the sample were placed in a sealed container (volume: 9 L), and the virus infectivity (viral particle count) was measured after the prescribed time. |
Antibacterial tests A bacterial solution was allowed to drip onto a piece of gauze (approximately 5 × 5 cm, 12-ply) that had been steam sterilized under high pressure (for 15 min at 121° C) to prepare the sample. The test substance (2 g of chlorine dioxide) and the sample were placed in a sealed container (volume: 9 L), and the sample was removed to measure the number of live bacteria after the prescribed time. |
Odor neutralization tests An aluminum gas bag was sealed with 5 g of chlorine dioxide, and 5 L of the bad-smelling gas was injected. This was allowed to sit at 25° C, and the concentration was measured with a gas detection tube at prescribed time intervals. |
